Peaceful Easy Feeling

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-breathe.jpg

Did you ever feel like you were having “one of those days”?  You wake up late…spill coffee on your white blouse…get stuck in traffic after leaving the house late…

It’s tempting to think that these things are happening TO you.  That you are powerless and destined for more of the same.

This couldn’t be further from the truth.  You are incredibly powerful.  Just look at your life.  You created it all.

Your energy at any given time determines the way you see the world and the way the world sees you.  And, if you are looking at the world from a place of victim-hood, you will see and experience more victim-hood.

Try this trio next time you begin to notice these dis-empowering TO me thoughts.

  1. Pause – this will give you a chance to respond instead of react.
  2. Breathe – find some stillness; take 3 breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth; let the exhale be longer than the inhale
  3. Mantra – choose a mantra that expresses how you would like to BE in the situation. Repeat the mantra to yourself.  Ex. Inhale ~ I AM calm, Exhale ~ I AM peaceful

I have found that changing my energy before I transition into any situation really helps.

  • In the morning before greeting my family

  • In the car before picking up my kids from school

  • On my doorstep before walking in my front door

I Heart Sedona

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-treepose.jpg

Do you have an adventure list?  Is there something in particular that you’d love to see or do or experience that just seems to stay a thought in your head?

Many years ago, my husband and I had an extended lay over in Phoenix.  We had just enough time to rent a car, drive the 2 hours to Sedona to watch a sunset and return to the Phoenix airport to catch our flight. Ever since then, experiencing another Sedona sunset had been on the adventure list in my head.

In May it became a reality!  Sunrise, sunset, yoga hiking tour and so much more.  It was just as I imagined it would be.  Just as I had written about it day after day.

  • I DECIDED to go to Sedona.
  • I IMAGINED it daily in my mind, in my journal and on my vision board.
  • I TOOK ACTION by choosing a date and making reservations.

That's me in tree pose on top of Cathedral Rock!  I even found a quiet rock to meditate on.  This is what it looks like when I follow my bliss.

What does your bliss look like?

The Color of Your Heart

I had the good fortune of witnessing a thought provoking conversation between my children this morning.  They were having a civil conversation about the color of each other’s hearts.  My daughter told my son that his heart was red and had some black spots on it because, she said, he could be mean.  My son, the oldest of the two, told my daughter the same.  That her heart had black spots on it too but it was because she was annoying.

I asked each of them what color they thought their own hearts were and they both said red and blue, like the images they had seen of the heart.  Then, I asked them what color my heart was.  My son replied that mine was pink and yellow.  He said that pink means happiness and yellow means kindness.

This melted my pink and yellow heart.

Years ago, he wouldn’t have chosen pink and yellow, because I was anything but happy.  I could ponder that…what color would my heart have been?  Instead I choose to relish in the fact that my son.  The old soul.  The one who reads me like a book.  Sees me, his mother, as happy and kind.

So grateful to the woman I was 6 years ago!  All of this work that I have done.  All of the tearing down what wasn’t working and building up what does.  The dismantling of my old life to create something new and beautiful.  It was all worth it!

What about you?  What color is your heart?

Three Little Words

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-threelittlewords (640x338) A few years ago I began choosing a new Word of the Year every January.  Last year was my year of YES!  I took it to heart.  I said Yes! to my health, Yes! to my family, Yes! to my dreams, Yes! to abundance, and Yes! to No!  It was an amazing year of YES! indeed.

This year I have chosen three little words.  They go together like peanut butter and jelly.  Like three peas in a pod.  They felt expansive and right and perfect for 2017.

FUN

FLOW

FREEDOM

As I revisit my vision and goals halfway through the year and glance up at my 2017 Vision Board, I see Fun, Flow and Freedom throughout the entire board.  I’ve begun placing red heart stickers on the images that have come to be or that are in process like trips that are planned or purchases that are being made.

I see images of FUN with family ~ jumping on our trampoline, camping and riding bikes.  I see FUN with friends ~ dancing, floating and connecting.  I see FUN with clients ~  teaching, speaking and sharing.

I see images of FLOW and FREEDOM my health and well-being, in my relationships, in my time, in my money and in my work.

What is your word of the year?  Are you living it?  Without judgement, assess the first 6 months of 2017.  What could you do more of?  What could you do less of?

We’re halfway through the year and the possibilities are endless.  What could you do to take the first step in really living your word of the year?

Doing Scary Stuff

onefootup-doingscarystuff-640x360.jpg

I’ve been doing lots of scary stuff lately.

Moving WAY out of my comfort zone.

Taking bold, brave steps in the direction of what I truly desire.

Does it scare me?  Yes!

Do I have to force myself sometimes?  Yes!

Do I succumb to the 3 Ds of dissuasion, distraction and delay?  Yes!  Yes!  Yes!

It is not easy.  Doing this scary stuff.

There is this gravitational pull to my old ways.

My “safe” ways.  The ways that I’ve known.

But I know that the good stuff lies just past the scary stuff.

So I continue to take the steps.

Sometimes they are big and bold and sometimes they are little baby steps.

And with every step I take, I know deep in my heart, that it is all a part of my becoming.

Resistance

QTrNn7DETWGsjyS5L2n5__MG_8345 (640x427) We all have it.

It happens every day.

It is relentless.

It is there like old faithful.

It is the reason so many of us stay stuck.

Stuck in dead end jobs.

Stuck in relationships that are going nowhere.

Stuck in a life that feels constrictive and sometimes even oppressive.

It comes from that part of us we call the ego.

It is very alluring, the ego.

It is the great seducer.

“I’m going to keep you safe,” it says.  “I’m going to make sure you don’t get hurt again."

Resistance can show up in many ways.

It can show up as procrastination.  “After I lose this weight.  That’s when I’ll start.”

It can show up as distraction.  “I don’t have time for that right now.  I’m so busy.”

It can also show up as red alert.  Fight or flight.  Paralysis.  All systems down.

You can be sure that the moment you make a declaration for change.

The moment you begin to stretch your wings.

The instant you even consider stepping out of your comfort zone, your ego will put up a front.

It’s called resistance.

What is it for you?  How is your resistance showing up?

Does it happen in the morning as you turn your alarm off instead of starting your new morning routine?

Is it midday when you reach for a sugary snack instead of the apple you packed?

How about when you sit down to meditate?  I’d bet you never feel resistance then…

You are not alone, my friend.  Resistance is that glorious human part of us that is

perfectly imperfect.

Next time you are wondering why you aren't doing what you intend to do, try this:

  1. Notice what you’re noticing.  This is the first step in making any change.
  2. Sit with it. Get curious about it.  With kindness and compassion.  Why am I resisting?
  3. Just do it. Take action.  Override the resistance.  Create new patterns.  Freedom resides in every moment.

Tracy

For This I Came

c2a9-subbotina-dreamstime-1600x949-640x380.jpg

Have you ever felt as if there was more for you in this life but you just couldn't figure out what it was?  Me too.  I spent most of my adult life seeking, studying and analyzing.  Looking outside of myself for the answers.

I spent much of that time thinking...

  • after I get the ideal job I will...
  • after I get my health in order I will...
  • after I get my finances figured out I will...

And, now I understand that purpose doesn't mean that there is one grand plan for life here on Earth.  That I am here to accomplish just one thing.

I finally get it.  Life is to be lived.  NOW!  I am here to live my joy in this moment.

I discovered that purpose is more about living fully, doing what brings me life.  Rather than searching for purpose, I could have been living on purpose.  And, enjoying life along the way.

I discovered that I can use my imagination to try on different roles, different scenarios.  I listen to the still, small, ever present, ever wise voice inside of me.  And, see how they feel.  I do the expansion/contraction test.  Does this bring me life or does it feel constrictive?  If it brings me life I know that I am on the right track.

Why are you here?  What lights you up?  What would you love to be or do or have?

Listen

possibility-640x495
Do you listen to your longings and discontent?  Or do you push them down, putting on a positive face?
In this day of positive thinking we are told to only think positive thoughts, not to dwell on what is wrong in life.  And, this is true.  We do want to come from a higher level of thinking, on what is right with the world but we also need to pay attention to what is coming up for us.  If we keep pushing it down, it will always push back up.  Kind of like whack a mole.
In actuality, our longings and discontent are information.  They are messages from the deepest part of us telling us that there is much more for us in this life.
We can start with our desire and then a willingness to do things differently.
Successful people often face a turning point that comes through some crisis or difficulty.  They begin to realize that there is a part of them that is greater than what they are facing, a higher version of themselves that is seeking to emerge.
The circumstances in our lives are simply that, circumstances.  The facts are the circumstances but the Truth is that we are greater than our circumstances.
There is a part of you that has all of the answers you seek.  There is a part of you that knows exactly what to do.
Einstein says that the quality of the answer depends on the quality of the question.  You have to know where you are going to know the right questions to ask to get there.
What do you long for?  Where is your discontent?    Which one speaks the loudest?
Unleash your desire.  Make a decision from your heart.  What would you love to be or do or have?
What would it feel like to have what you desire?  Create a crystal clear picture of what you want and take the steps to get there.
The possibilities are endless...

A Magic Wand

photo-1421986527537-888d998adb74-2-640x427 What kind of life would YOU love living?  YOU!  Not your family.  Not your friends.  Not society.

YOU!

If you had a magic wand.  What would you create for yourself?  What would your life look like?

What would YOU love?

What brings YOU life?

What do YOU want to do or be or have in this life?

Think about it…really…let your imagination run wild...

Most of us, when we think about what we really want, start with what we think would fit into our lives based on:

our credentials

family expectations

societal expectations

our present circumstances

the economy

our bank account…

It’s time to start asking different questions, bigger questions.

Howard Thurman advised “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

Your desires are as unique as your thumbprint.

What do YOU desire?

What would fill YOU to the brim?

What would your life look like?

your health and well-being

your relationships

your vocation and/or creative expression in the world

your time/money freedom

What would you love to be or do or have or create or experience?

And what else and what else and what else…

Lori ~ A Vision Board Story

img_5359-480x640 I have been making vision boards since 2010.  Be careful what you include on your board because you just might get it!

I did a vision board during a work trip to San Francisco in April 2012.  It was very rushed and I wasn't all that focused on what I was doing.  I included some things I wanted but I also put some things I knew I would NEVER get in a million years!  I was trying to fill the space so that I could be done with the project.  I was single at the time and had lost all hope of ever having a relationship that would lead to marriage and kids.  I put a picture of a mom and dad and two kids at Disney world on my board.  They were all standing together for a picture and the two kids had on the Mickey Mouse Ear Hats.  I did not even want this or dream of this.  I also put a picture of a children's room.  Again - nothing I wanted - just trying to fill space and I did like the picture of the room.

In June 2013, I went to Disney with my boyfriend (started dating in January 2013), his daughter, her two cousins, and his parents.  This was barely a year after I slapped this picture onto a vision board - and I was single!  We have many pictures all together and even pictures with the Mickey Mouse Ear Hats.  His parents took us all on a trip for a week! I also now have a "girls bedroom" in the house.

I married my husband in October 2016.  He gave me the engagement ring that I had on another vision board that I really put a lot of time and effort into.  He never saw my board or had any idea that I had THE RING that he chose for me already picked out!!  The one on my vision board was Tiffany and the one he got me was not a Tiffany but it is almost the exact same style as the one that I had dreamed of (and if I would admit it - I never felt worthy enough to have the ring I wanted.... who would ever want to give me something so extravagant??)  I don't feel that way now but that is where I was when I added the beautiful diamond ring to my board.  :)

I have many, many instances where the dreams I glued to a vision board came true - this or something better.  Too many things to list!!  Even things that I didn't really want came true!  I guess I must have put my attention on them so they manifested.  Vision boards are a great way to dream even if you feel like what you are dreaming for is definitely never going to be an option.  IT IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE AN OPTION!! I didn't even believe in the beginning and the things I had on my board just came to me...  I am definitely a believer now!

Michele ~ A Vision Board Story

michele-pic-2 I am a big believer in vision boards and try and do one every year.  I think they really have helped me to get clear on my goals and stay focused.  I usually create one with pictures on poster board, take a picture of it and then use it as a screen saver on my phone so that I see it many times daily.  It really is a great reminder of what I want to stay focused on.

Susan ~ A Vision Board Story

susan-pic-2-640x426 My Franklin Planner was my first vision board.  It was portable and went with me everywhere.  I was living in New York at the time.  The first two pages were plastic inserts that held 12 photos.  It had pictures of Kauai with all of its lush greenery, beautiful mountains and gorgeous ocean.  As well as pictures of what my office looked like with a teak desk.

I looked at these images throughout each day and FELT them.  I pictured myself IN them until I was feeling them in real life.

I lived in Hawaii for 5 years – 3 years in Kauai and 2 in Maui.  The photo above is from my health club on Kauai (where Pierce Brosnan worked out).  It had lovely ocean and mountain facing views.  And, I got the teak desk too!
