Freedom to Choose

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-happy4th.jpg

Our forefathers had a vision.

They decided on the vision.

They believed in the vision.

They took action on the vision.

They built a support structure to protect the vision.

And, this week, we will be celebrating the 243rd birthday of the declaration of that vision.  The Declaration of Independence.  A declaration of freedom.

As we celebrate with fireworks, parades and festive gatherings, I’d like to invite you to celebrate yourself as well.

your life

your vision

your freedom

I invite you to draw up your own declaration.  Your own vision.

Try this:

Listen to your longings and discontent

Decide what you would love to be or do or have

Take action

You have the freedom to free yourself.  To free yourself from the chains that hold you back from being all you are here to be.

The time is now!  Declare it!

Shine Brightly,

Tracy

5 Must Do Daily Practices

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-hellosunshine.jpg

In the hustle and bustle of life as a mom it is imperative that we maintain consistent practices to help us stay sane throughout the day.  As painful as it feels sometimes, I start my day at 5:45 so that I have time to do these 5 practices daily.  It’s a way of filling my cup before tending to my family and my work.  They have all become integral parts of my life.

1. Walk ~ What are the benefits of walking you ask?  Let me count the ways...  Holistic health and wellness guru Dr Andrew Weil recommends walking as THE best exercise.  Not only does it do your body good but it also increases cognitive performance in the brain and reduces stress.  I choose a 30 minute morning nature walk as my daily go to exercise.

2. Yoga ~ 20 minutes of yoga each day will change your life.  I know this to be true.  After 25 years of yoga and years of experimenting with various healing modalities, I always return to the mat.  There is no better way that I know of to connect mind, body and soul.  And, yoga is a great stress reducer.

3. Meditate ~ Treat your mind as you would your body with the "mental hygiene" of meditation.  Contrary to popular belief, the practice of meditation is to bring your mind back to NOW whenever it wanders.  And, trust me, it will wander.  It is not about sitting with a blank mind for 30 minutes 3 times every day.  Start small with a 3 minute guided meditation and increase the time gradually.  Oh, did I mention that it reduces stress too?

4. Gratitude ~ After attending to my body and my mind, I begin each day by writing and connecting with 3 things I am grateful for.  Not only does gratitude feel good as I recall and focus on all the goodness in my life, but it also aligns me with the vibration of joy, happiness and abundance.  I like to call it the "back door to abundance".

5. Vision ~ Connecting with my vision daily is an absolute for me.  I read it, write it and "put it on" every day.  Living a vision driven life is THE most life giving way of living.  As I connect with my vision I BEcome the woman in it.  And so can you.

Shine Brightly,

Tracy

On BEing

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-on-being.jpg

Each day I shower.

Each day I imagine.

Each day I shower as the woman I imagine myself BEcoming.

I put her on.

I act as if I AM that woman.

The woman I am BEcoming.

I see the steam.

I smell the shampoo.

I feel the warm water run down my back like she does.

I think.

I plan.

I shower as if I am the future me.

I create future memory.

Cells of recognition.

Of how incredibly amazing it feels to be the woman I am 3 years from today.

Try this:

  • Imagine yourself 3 years from today.  Loving your life.
  • Put it on with your 5 senses.  What do you see, feel, hear, smell, taste?
  • Ask yourself "What step would my future self tell me to take today?"
  • Take that step.

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Shine Brightly,

Tracy

Changing Your Mood with Gratitude

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-gratitude1.jpg

The other night my 8 year old daughter was having a difficult time.  It had been a full week and we recently had to have a few difficult conversations with our children about death.

My daughter, who has a vivid imagination, did NOT want to sleep in her bed.  She was not having any part of it.  By 10PM I realized that she was serious!

So, I got her settled into my bed and took out my gratitude journal for me and my bedside notebook for her.  Her eyes lit up at the sight of the notebook as she is an artist in the making and draws any chance she can get.  I told her that instead of our nightly “grateful prayer”, as we call it, we were going to write in our gratitude journals to help us change our thoughts.

I was delighted with the experience for both of us and for the learning that took place that night.  She now has her own gratitude journal.  A simple solution with a powerful outcome.

Try this:

  • Notice how you are feeling

  • Trace the feeling back to a thought

  • Bring to mind something that you are grateful for and feel it fully

Wash. Rinse. Repeat as needed.

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Shine Brightly,

Tracy

Your Inner Wonder Woman

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-wonderwoman.jpg

Deep inside each woman lays an inner wonder woman.

  • She may be active daily.
  • She may be lying dormant.
  • She may come out only on special occasions.

In some, it may be decades.  In some, she may never be seen.

Regardless, she is always there.

  • She is strong.
  • She is patient.
  • She is bold.
  • She is smart.
  • She is kind.
  • She is courageous.
  • She knows what to do.

She is dependable as the rising sun.  Solid as a rock.

She waits in the wings.  Sending inner messages of love and power.  Waiting for an invitation to come forth.  It is up to you and I to set her free.

She is you.  She is me.  She is all of our sisters united as one.

To access your inner wonder woman, try this:

Stand tall with feet hip distance apart

Roll your shoulders back

Place your hands on your hips and say “I’ve got this!”

*Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Shine Brightly,

Tracy

Weaving a Tapestry of Support

A common thread in my work with women is the fierce desire for connection.  A tribe.  A power posse.  Call it what you will.  It is the innate desire we all have to be in communion with others.

For some it is to have just one close friend.  A confidante to share our innermost desires and secrets.

For others it is to have a tribe.  A group of women who gather frequently.

  • For support.
  • For celebration.
  • For comfort.

I have a combination of the two.  What I call a tapestry of support.  A handpicked selection of beautiful beings from all aspects of my life.  Whose lives are intricately woven together with me as the common thread.

I feel incredibly blessed to have this tapestry of support.  I am more supported now than I have ever been in my life.  With the knowing that if I fall (and I will), my sisters will be there by my side to brush me off and remind me of who I truly am.

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Shine Brightly,

Tracy

Bubble of Peace

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-aprotectivebubble.jpg

Do you feel it?  The frenetic energy in the air.  As the holidays loom in the not so distant future.

  • For some of us it is the anticipation of all we need to do.
  • For some of us it is the anticipation of spending time with family.
  • For others it is the anticipation of spending the holidays without loved ones.

Wherever it comes from, it is sometimes difficult to discern what is ours and what we are feeling from the world around us.  And, it is during these times, that it is especially important to create sacred space for ourselves.  Creating space inside ourselves first and then extending outside into our environment.

A great daily practice is to create a protective bubble around yourself.

Be Still. Focus on your breath.  Try this:

Bubble of Peace

  1. Place your hands at your side

  2. Imagine that with each inhale you are filling your lungs with love

  3. Imagine that with each exhale you are blowing up a bubble and filling it with peace

  4. On each exhale, raise your arms a little at a time until your bubble extends from finger tip to finger tip

  5. Imagine that you are completely surrounded and protected in your own little bubble of peace.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat as needed.

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Shine Brightly,

Tracy

A Soft Place to Land

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-selfcare1.jpg

What does your soul desire?  What does your soul need?  What fills your soul to the brim?

There are as many ways to feed a soul as there are souls to feed.  We have each come into this human form with our own lessons to learn.  Our own mountains to climb.

Our soul print is as individual as our thumbprint.  We are at the same time connected as one on the spiritual level and unique on the human level.

We each have our own purpose in this lifetime and it begins with creating a soft place to land.  For ourselves first and then for others.  We must fill our own cups to the brim so that we are able to give from the overflow.

Most of us come at this with the belief that we must put the needs of others first.  I find this especially true of mothers.  There is this misconception that we must give all we've got to our families before tending to our own needs.

I learned the hard way, after a herniated disc, chronic fatigue and a clear reflection from my then 3 year old, a highly sensitive old soul, of how poorly I was treating myself.

As much as I don't love to get up early, I found that the best way to create a soft place for myself to land was to get up and out of bed.

Early Morning.  Before my family wakes.  Is now my favorite time of day.

In the quiet stillness.  The dawn of a new day of life.

It’s my time.  To fill my cup.  To feed my mind, my body and my soul.

Try this to create a soft place for yourself to land:

  • Get Clear - Imagine:  Who would I love to BE for myself? Who would I love to BE for my family? Who would I love to BE in the world? (ex. I AM at my ideal weight. I AM present with my family. I AM a spreader of joy.)

  • Create Stillness - Pause. Breathe. Ask. Listen.  - Ask yourself this question into the stillness and then listen.  What can I do with what I have to BEcome the woman I imagined above? (Ex. Get up early and walk.  Put my phone down and give my child my full attention.  Get out of the house, smile and share my light with everyone I encounter.)

  • Take Action - Incorporate one new idea into your life at a time.  When you have fully created the habit, incorporate another new idea into your life.

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Shine Brightly,

Tracy

Rooms of Consciousness

onefootup-tracynolin-beerman-roomsofconsciousness.jpg

It’s so interesting.

Noticing what you’re noticing.

Feelings of expansion or contraction.

And then tracing the feeling back to a thought.

This became super clear to me last month while I was in LA.  Every 6 months I return for recurring Life Mastery training.  Every 6 months I have a different hotel room.  I had a striking realization that the last 4 hotel rooms in particular were a clear indication of the thoughts I was having.  The frequency I was transmitting.

Room #1

A lovely room with a balcony that overlooked the pool

*Feeling on top of my game!

Room #2

A beautiful SUITE with a wall of windows

*Thinking to myself as I walked past first class headed out to LA “I’m a first class flyer!”

Room #3

A room on the bottom floor of the hotel.  A dark room.  Without a balcony.  Overlooking the parking lot.

*Feeling fearful.  Feeling frustrated.  Feeling confused.

Room #4

A lovely room.  A newly updated room.  With a balcony overlooking the palm trees and the pool.

*Believing in myself.  In the power that breathes me.  Thinking “I’ve got this!”

It was such a stark realization that I have the power within me.  That the thoughts I am thinking absolutely create my reality.  That I get to choose in every moment.  I get to choose darkness or light.  Contraction or expansion.

Note to self:  Choose Expansion!

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Tracy

Doing Scary Stuff

onefootup-doingscarystuff-640x360.jpg

I’ve been doing lots of scary stuff lately.

Moving WAY out of my comfort zone.

Taking bold, brave steps in the direction of what I truly desire.

Does it scare me?  Yes!

Do I have to force myself sometimes?  Yes!

Do I succumb to the 3 Ds of dissuasion, distraction and delay?  Yes!  Yes!  Yes!

It is not easy.  Doing this scary stuff.

There is this gravitational pull to my old ways.

My “safe” ways.  The ways that I’ve known.

But I know that the good stuff lies just past the scary stuff.

So I continue to take the steps.

Sometimes they are big and bold and sometimes they are little baby steps.

And with every step I take, I know deep in my heart, that it is all a part of my becoming.

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Shine Brightly,

Tracy

Resistance

qtrnn7detwgsjys5l2n5__mg_8345-640x427.jpg

We all have it.

It happens every day.

It is relentless.

It is there like old faithful.

It is the reason so many of us stay stuck.

Stuck in dead end jobs.

Stuck in relationships that are going nowhere.

Stuck in a life that feels constrictive and sometimes even oppressive.

It comes from that part of us we call the ego.

It is very alluring, the ego.

It is the great seducer.

“I’m going to keep you safe,” it says.  “I’m going to make sure you don’t get hurt again."

Resistance can show up in many ways.

It can show up as procrastination.  “After I lose this weight.  That’s when I’ll start.”

It can show up as distraction.  “I don’t have time for that right now.  I’m so busy.”

It can also show up as red alert.  Fight or flight.  Paralysis.  All systems down.

You can be sure that the moment you make a declaration for change.

The moment you begin to stretch your wings.

The instant you even consider stepping out of your comfort zone, your ego will put up a front.

It’s called resistance.

What is it for you?  How is your resistance showing up?

Does it happen in the morning as you turn your alarm off instead of starting your new morning routine?

Is it midday when you reach for a sugary snack instead of the apple you packed?

How about when you sit down to meditate?  I’d bet you never feel resistance then…

You are not alone, my friend.  Resistance is that glorious human part of us that is

perfectly imperfect.

Next time you are wondering why you aren't doing what you intend to do, try this:

  1. Notice what you’re noticing.  This is the first step in making any change.
  2. Sit with it. Get curious about it.  With kindness and compassion.  Why am I resisting?
  3. Just do it. Take action.  Override the resistance.  Create new patterns.  Freedom resides in every moment.

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Shine Brightly,

Tracy
