Three Little Words

onefootup-tracynolinbeerman-threelittlewords-640x338.jpg

A few years ago I began choosing a new Word of the Year every January.  Last year was my year of YES!  I took it to heart.  I said Yes! to my health, Yes! to my family, Yes! to my dreams, Yes! to abundance, and Yes! to No!  It was an amazing year of YES! indeed.

This year I have chosen three little words.  They go together like peanut butter and jelly.  Like three peas in a pod.  They felt expansive and right and perfect for 2017.

FUN FLOW FREEDOM

As I revisit my vision and goals halfway through the year and glance up at my 2017 Vision Board, I see Fun, Flow and Freedom throughout the entire board.  I’ve begun placing red heart stickers on the images that have come to be or that are in process like trips that are planned or purchases that are being made.

I see images of FUN with family ~ jumping on our trampoline, camping and riding bikes.  I see FUN with friends ~ dancing, floating and connecting.  I see FUN with clients ~  teaching, speaking and sharing.

I see images of FLOW and FREEDOM my health and well-being, in my relationships, in my time, in my money and in my work.

What is your word of the year?  Are you living it?  Without judgement, assess the first 6 months of 2017.  What could you do more of?  What could you do less of?

We’re halfway through the year and the possibilities are endless.  What could you do to take the first step in really living your word of the year?

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Tracy

Listen

possibility-640x495
Do you listen to your longings and discontent?  Or do you push them down, putting on a positive face?
In this day of positive thinking we are told to only think positive thoughts, not to dwell on what is wrong in life.  And, this is true.  We do want to come from a higher level of thinking, on what is right with the world but we also need to pay attention to what is coming up for us.  If we keep pushing it down, it will always push back up.  Kind of like whack a mole.
In actuality, our longings and discontent are information.  They are messages from the deepest part of us telling us that there is much more for us in this life.
We can start with our desire and then a willingness to do things differently.
Successful people often face a turning point that comes through some crisis or difficulty.  They begin to realize that there is a part of them that is greater than what they are facing, a higher version of themselves that is seeking to emerge.
The circumstances in our lives are simply that, circumstances.  The facts are the circumstances but the Truth is that we are greater than our circumstances.
There is a part of you that has all of the answers you seek.  There is a part of you that knows exactly what to do.
Einstein says that the quality of the answer depends on the quality of the question.  You have to know where you are going to know the right questions to ask to get there.
What do you long for?  Where is your discontent?    Which one speaks the loudest?
Unleash your desire.  Make a decision from your heart.  What would you love to be or do or have?
What would it feel like to have what you desire?  Create a crystal clear picture of what you want and take the steps to get there.
The possibilities are endless...

A Magic Wand

photo-1421986527537-888d998adb74-2-640x427.jpg

What kind of life would YOU love living?  YOU!  Not your family.  Not your friends.  Not society.

YOU!

If you had a magic wand.  What would you create for yourself?  What would your life look like?

What would YOU love?

What brings YOU life?

What do YOU want to do or be or have in this life?

Think about it…really…let your imagination run wild...

Most of us, when we think about what we really want, start with what we think would fit into our lives based on:

  • our credentials
  • family expectations
  • societal expectations
  • our present circumstances
  • the economy
  • our bank account…

It’s time to start asking different questions, bigger questions.

Howard Thurman advised “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

Your desires are as unique as your thumbprint.

What do YOU desire?

What would fill YOU to the brim?

What would your life look like?

  • your health and well-being
  • your relationships
  • your vocation and/or creative expression in the world
  • your time/money freedom

What would you love to be or do or have or create or experience?

And what else and what else and what else…

Reflection

img_7068-640x480 At the end of every year I like to get out my calendar, my journal and a pen.  To take a close look at the events that unfolded and reflect.  Without judgement.  Without contempt.  Without remorse.  I take a good look at it all.

Years before, I would have written down all that I perceived as “bad” and burned it to get it as far away from me as possible.  And, hold on tight to the wins (if I could find any).  Now, I carefully tie it all together and celebrate.

All of the wins big and small.

All of the wonderful opportunities for growth.

The gift of choice in every moment.

I celebrate it all with a grateful heart.  Get a good glimpse of the past year in the rear view mirror of my mind.  Thanking my “younger” self for all the choices I made last year to get me where I am today.

If there is one thing I have learned since breaking my life apart almost 5 years ago, it is this.  I get to choose how I will interpret my circumstances.  I get to choose how I will respond.  I get to choose joy over any other emotion.  I get to choose to celebrate all that transpired, let it move through me and then let it go.  NOW is all that matters.

So…get out your calendar from 2016, a pen and your journal. Take a close look at the events that unfolded.  Journal it out.  Do a mind-dump.  Then, find the good in each circumstance.  Find the hidden blessings.  Rewrite last year’s story with compassion for the woman who experienced those circumstances and thank her for where she is today.

“Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.”  Wayne Dyer

Remember Your Brilliance

photo-1429277005502-eed8e872fe52-640x427.jpg

Do you know how incredible you are?  Have you ever really thought about how much you have to offer?  About all of the ways that you rock?

We are often so blinded by the circumstances of our lives that we forget who we are.  As if amnesia has set in.  One disappointment.  One negative comment.  Can send us into a downward spiral of victim hood or low self-esteem.  We believe that we don’t have what it takes to pursue our heart’s desire.

The Truth is that you are capable of far more than you know.  There is not one person on Earth who is exactly like you.  Your experiences, your genes, your desires, your talents.  They are all woven together into an intricate, unrepeatable arrangement called YOU.

Guess what!  You have assets.  They may be hidden but they are there.  But, you can’t use your assets until you are aware of them, until you bring them to the surface and let them shine like a brilliant gem.

I’ve created a worksheet that I call Remember Your Brilliance. To help you create our own personal asset list.  This is different than creating a resume.  You are calling forth a full spectrum of assets.  Brilliance in all areas of life.

At first, it may seem like the list is coming out as a trickle, but as you delve deeper, going deep into your memory bank, you will be in awe at what comes forth.  The prompts will help you let it flow.

This simple practice will build confidence and self-esteem.  Remind you of all the ways you rock.  Let it support you in building your dream, in letting your light shine.

Ask yourself:  What can I do with what I have?

You have something unique and beautiful to offer the world.  You are capable of far more than you’ve ever imagined.  It’s time to share it.

Are You Ready?

c2a9-suwatchai-pluemruetai-dreamstime-com-480x312.jpg

What if you had a magic wand and all of your dreams came true…today?  Would you be ready?

  • The dream partner
  • The dream business
  • The dream home

What if they were already here?  Would you be ready to open the door and let them in?

Many of us, when we even dare to dream, forget this very important piece.  In order to get what we want in life, we have to make the space for it.  Make it welcome in our lives.

There are 3 keys to creating the life of your dreams:

  • Decide - become crystal clear on what you desire in order to make it happen.
  • Believe – have undying faith that what you desire is already yours.
  • Act – take a step, every day, in the direction of your dream.

Ask this question.  What can I do today with what I have?

If you desire a dream home, for example, you might:

  • Find a real estate agent
  • Get pre-approved for a mortgage
  • Put your present home on the market

Dreaming your dream home doesn’t get you the keys.

Take a step.  Get ready.  Make it welcome.

A Dolphin Inspires

lloyd-luecke-bottlenose-dolphin-dreamstime-stock-photos-640x427 I have always had an affinity for dolphin.  I look for them as I walk the beach, fly over the water, cruise out to the deep sea.  8 out of 10 times I see them on my sacred walks on the beach.  This may be because I am an avid beach walker or because I am always looking.  I’m not sure but I am grateful every time.

Years ago I watched a dolphin breach 15-16 feet out of the water.  No one was around to see this but me.  To this day, I feel that dolphin was giving me a private show, saying hello and a thank you for being there.

A few years ago we watched the movie A Dolphin Tale, about a dolphin named Winter with a prosthetic tail.  I knew I had to meet her so I took my family to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater, FL over spring break to do just that.

Winter’s is a story of sheer willpower, determination and perseverance.  She is alive today because she didn’t know that her chances of survival were near impossible, that a dolphin can’t survive without a tail.  All she knew was the love, dedication and faith of the humans who cared for her.  And, not only did she survive, she thrives.  She touches the hearts and souls of humans daily.

What would you love?

What if you didn’t think it was impossible?

What would you do?

What if you kept a corner of your mind open to the possibility?

Would you live your life differently?

Discover. Empower. Balance.

Wishing you well,

Tracy

The Inner Mean Girl

© Mamz heart depicted in sand Dreamstime I have an inner mean girl.

She’s critical.  She’s judgmental.  She’s ruthless.

She tries her best to talk me out of any good I seek.

“Just trying to keep you safe,” she says.

She keeps me on my toes, making sure I do it all just right.

Not a hair out of place, not a misspoken word.

“Don’t let them see your imperfections,” she’ll say.

She likes patterns.  Failure is her favorite.

“See”, she says.  “You don’t have what it takes.”

She finds endless examples to support her case.

If I let her she will beat me into submission.

I have an inner advocate.

She’s kind.  She’s caring.  She’s compassionate.

“I love you,” she’ll say.  “You are perfect just the way you are.”

She’s incredibly powerful.  A badass.

“You can move mountains,” she says.  “You ARE doing it.”

She’s supportive.  She urges me to take bold, brave steps in the direction of my dreams.

“It’s ok,” she says, “step out of your comfort zone.  I’ll be here by your side.”

She’s a bit quieter than my inner mean girl but she is always with me.

She’s as dependable as the rising sun.

And, the more I summon her, the richer my life becomes.

Wishing you well,

Tracy

Yes!

dreamstimefree_3765538-640x428.jpg

There has been a lot of buzz as of late about choosing a word of the year. Usually I have many but this year I chose Yes!  Actually, I have been dabbling in Yes! for several years, since I started breaking apart my life, but this year I’m all in!

At first it may feel a bit selfish to say Yes! A bit unnatural.  But once you get the hang of it you will wonder why you waited so long.  Yes! is exciting and terrifying all in one.  Yes! opens doors, renews relationships and frees you to be you.  Choosing Yes! gives your children permission to say Yes!  To be authentic.  To live their truth.

This year I say…

Yes! to my health.

Yes! to my family.

Yes! to my dreams.

Yes! to abundance.

And

Yes! to No!

If you haven’t yet, watch Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday interview with Shonda Rhimes, creator and producer of the award winning series Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal to name a few.  She recently wrote a book called Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person(now on my must read list). She made the bold move two years ago of saying Yes! to her life and it changed her in ways she could not have imagined.  Her year of Yes! lead her to some incredible experiences she would not have otherwise had, losing weight, letting go of what no longer served her and most importantly, showing up for her children as the empowered, present mama she is.

Thank you Shonda! For being brave, sharing your story with the world and being you!

Fun. Flow. Freedom.
