Breaking Patterns

It’s here!  A brand new baby year.  A new beginning.

The gyms are packed.  Resolutions are in place.  Change is in the air.

Promises. Promises. Promises.  To make positive changes for ourselves and our families.

And, very soon, the momentum fades.  Our minds drift back to our old ways.  Our old patterns of being.

Changing habits is serious business.  It takes much more than a resolution to break through the patterns that have run deep grooves in our minds.

The good news is that it is absolutely possible to break those pesky patterns.  One of the tools I use is called a trigger.  A trigger is basically a reminder to change a thought or perform an action.

Try one of these or create your own:

  • Door frame triggers can be set up to remind you to take a pause before entering a bedroom, your home, your office or for making any other transition.  In an effort to cultivate more patience with my daughter I have created a door frame trigger for myself.  Before I walk through the door frame of my daughter’s room I silently say to myself “I Am kind, caring and patient”.  This sets the tone for what I may find on the other side of the door.  Re-framing the old reactive pattern of “omg, I can’t see the floor” or “it’s been 30 minutes and she’s still not ready for school” to I AM kind, caring and patient. I AM says that this is happening now.  Not I want to or I plan to or I should.  I AM means that I am presently kind, caring and patient.
  • An audio trigger is an easy way to create change.  I have an audio notification on my phone that reminds me 3 times a day to breathe.  To stop what I am doing and take 3 deep, belly breaths.  I’ve been doing yoga for over 25 years, teach breath work each week and still find that I forget to breathe.
  • A visual trigger is a lovely way to create a new habit.  I have a talisman that I made at a workshop several years ago made of crystals, a heart bead and a bead that says love on it strung on fishing wire.  It hangs on my bathroom mirror and reminds me to look myself in the eyes and say “I love you”.  It is a constant reminder to be kind to myself by changing my self-talk.

What kind of trigger will you incorporate into your life?  Please share with a comment.

Fun. Flow. Freedom.

Shine Brightly,

Tracy

New Year New Vision Board

dsc_0017-640x427-2 The days of creating New Year’s Resolutions are over for me.  I spent so many years creating them and then being completely disappointed in my failure to follow through with what I thought I wanted.

Now, I create a yearly Vision Board.

The Vision Board is a daily reminder of my intentions.  A visual reminder of what I truly desire in my life.    It is less about things and more about creation.  What I want to create for myself and my family.

I still include things in my board.  But, they are more of a marker rather than filling a hole as they were in the past.

They remind me:

That I am on the right track.

That I am living my life by choice.

That I am a powerful force in my life.

A true Vision Board is not a craft project.  It’s not a cut and paste activity although I’ve seen some delightful Vision Board creations.  Some true works of art.

It’s much, much more.  A Vision Board, created with inner inquiry and intention, is a powerful tool in creating what we truly desire.  It’s a decision to live life by design rather than by the default mode we may have been used to up until now.

Good News!  I am holding a Vision Board Workshop in Raleigh, on January 21, 2017!  Join us for a full day immersion including a mini workshop, coaching, inner inquiry and sharing with 11 other powerful creators in a room full of creative energy.  Oh yeah, and a delicious boxed lunch from Catering Works!  Sign up now as there are only 12 seats and they will fill up fast.

Here’s to 2017!  The best year of your life!

Be Well,

Tracy

Winding Up

Old watch As we near the end of the year, the temptation is to wind down, go into hibernation, take a long winter snooze.  To spend these last few weeks getting ready for the holidays and then crashing until February or March.

This year, instead of winding down, I am choosing to Wind Up.

I’ll be:

Winding Up my awareness

Winding Up my goals

Winding Up activity

Winding Up for the mountains I will move in 2017

I am recharging now rather than in January when everyone else is resting.  Gaining momentum now instead of losing steam.  Creating my life now instead of getting started in the New Year.

I’ll be getting really clear about what I want so I can design a year I love.  I’ll be taking note (without judgement) of the lessons learned in 2016.  I’ll be using these notes to guide me in making 2017 my best year yet.  I’ll be asking myself these 3 important questions:

What was I doing?

What worked?

What didn’t?

Time is precious.  What will you do with yours?

I AM creating a life I love.

Discover. Empower. Balance.

Be Well,

Tracy
